Connecting Creativity, Community, and Culture in the Treasure Valley

Boise Open Studios Collective Organization

Welcome to the Boise Open Studios Collective Organization (BOSCO), your gateway to the vibrant, diverse, and ever-evolving world of visual arts in Idaho’s Treasure Valley. As a cornerstone of the region’s creative community, BOSCO strives to cultivate meaningful connections between local artists and the public, foster education and mentorship, and celebrate the enduring power of artistic expression in our lives.

Our Origin Story: From Humble Beginnings to a Thriving Collective

BOSCO’s journey began in 2004, sparked by the vision of thirteen passionate artists who recognized that art is most powerful when it’s shared openly and personally. Their goal was simple but profound: to open their studios for a single weekend, inviting the community inside to witness the creative process firsthand. That first event was modest in size but grand in spirit, planting the seeds for a movement that would soon flourish.

Over the years, BOSCO has grown organically—by artists, for artists and the public, and for the enrichment of both. Today, our collective boasts over 125 members representing a dazzling array of disciplines, including painting, sculpture, ceramics, printmaking, photography, glass, fiber, jewelry, mosaic, collage, assemblage, and digital imagery. Each artist adds their unique voice and vision to the collective tapestry, making BOSCO a dynamic force in the region’s cultural landscape.

In recognition of its impact and importance, BOSCO is a registered 501(c)(3) non-profit organization. Our mission is rooted in education, community, and a commitment to advancing the arts—for creators, collectors, and the simply curious alike.

Our Signature Event: The Annual Open Studios Tour

At the heart of BOSCO’s calendar is our flagship event: the Open Studios Tour. Every October, over the course of two inspiring weekends, the Treasure Valley comes alive with creativity. This is more than just an art event—it’s an invitation to step inside the creative sanctuaries of our local artists.

  • During the first full weekend of October, artists on the east side of the valley open their studios to the public.
  • The second weekend is dedicated to artists on the west side, ensuring everyone has a chance to welcome visitors and share their process.

The Open Studios Tour is a rare opportunity for art lovers, students, families, and the simply inquisitive to meet artists where inspiration happens. Attendees can explore working studios, ask questions, watch demonstrations, and even purchase original artwork directly from the creators. This intimate, interactive experience breaks down barriers, demystifies the artistic process, and creates lasting bonds between artists and their communities.

With thousands of visitors each year, the Open Studios Tour has become a beloved fall tradition in Boise and the greater Treasure Valley. It is both a celebration of talent and a testament to the power of open doors and open minds.

Year-Round Impact: Educational Initiatives and Collaborative Events

BOSCO’s commitment doesn’t end with the Open Studios Tour. We believe in nurturing artists at every stage of their journey and extending our reach through innovative educational programs and inspiring collaborations.

Mentorship & Professional Development

Through partnerships like the Catalyst Arts Collaborative, experienced BOSCO members step into the role of mentors, guiding emerging and aspiring artists through the intricacies of a creative career. These mentorships provide practical advice, critical feedback, and the encouragement necessary to thrive in the art world.

Our Education Committee works year-round to design and deliver business-building classes and workshops. Covering everything from marketing to technology, these sessions empower artists with the tools they need to grow their practices, sustain their livelihoods, and confidently present themselves in a competitive marketplace.

Exhibitions & Cultural Collaborations

BOSCO regularly organizes pop-up exhibitions, gallery shows, and public art projects in partnership with local businesses, cultural institutions, and community organizations. These collaborations include:

  • Special events with Oinkari Basque Dancers, Idaho Songwriters Association, Ballet Idaho, and others to blend visual art with music, dance, and history.
  • Joint exhibitions with the Idaho State Archives, City of Meridian, and Meridian Arts Commission, highlighting Idaho’s unique cultural diversity.

These efforts not only elevate artists but also strengthen the cultural fabric of our region, making art more visible, accessible, and vital to everyday life.
